The sandpaper letters are backed onto painted wooden boards. By passing fingers over the letters children learn to recognise the typical shape of each letter. In this exercise, each letter is always spoken out loud so that the child establishes a connection between the sound and the characters represented. Also, children can trace over the sandpaper letter with tracing paper (not included).
Corresponding to Montessori practice vowels are on blue tablets while consonants are pink.
