The two lines ensure the laid-out letters are straight which improves readability and demonstrates the positioning of letter parts the ascender (upper part) and descender (lower part below baseline).

In this way the basics of reading and writing are learned.

Prerequisites on behalf of the child are the ability to analyse words into their component sounds in the correct order and reorganization of the graphic symbols of the sounds. These are typically learned with the Sandpaper Letters.
