The Coloured Bead Material is a parallel material to the Golden Beads.

Each number has an assigned colour:

1. red
2. green
3. pink
4. yellow
5. light blue
6. purple
7. white
8. brown
9. dark blue
10. gold

This helps the child to understand the fragmentation of numbers. For example, that the number 3 can be built up from any of:

• one pink 3
• from one red 1 and one green 2
• one green 2 and one red 1
